Reconnecting a website after a domain name transfer?

In order for your website and e-mail to work perfectly after your domain name transfer, you must adjust the DNS settings and update the name servers.

1. Adjust the A record to the IP address of your hosting

The A-record of the domain name must point to the IP address of the server where your hosting is placed.

Enter the IP address of your hosting for these 3 hostnames:

  1. The domain name itself:
  2. The 'www'-subdomain: This way visitors can also access your website if they put www for your domain name.
  3. The 'ftp-subdomein': You do that so that you can use this as a server name in an ftp program.

Exception for Windows hosting by

The hostname of the ftp-server is always instead.

If you still want to use in your ftp program, you need to create a CNAME record for with the destination (see image).

What is the IP address of my hosting?

Do you have web hosting at Then you will find the IP address back in Follow My Products >> My Web Hosting. Open the account you would like to work with, by clicking on 'Hosting details'. Navigate to the panel to your left. You should be in the Overview panel. Copy your ‘IP Address’ (see image).

Are you hosting elsewhere? Take a look at the control panel of your hosting provider or ask your web developer.

2. Update your nameservers

To confirm the changes to the DNS settings, you must update the name servers to those of your new provider. This concludes the transfer of your domain name.

Tip: Only start this step if your e-mail and mailboxes have been set up correctly.

Go to My products >> Domain names> Your domain name Manage > Name servers in the control panel and choose " nameservers" (see image).

Caution! It may take up to 24 hours for this adjustment to be fully implemented. Afterwards, your domain name and e-mail will be fully functional with the new provider.
